Global Warming That Melts The HeartNov 22, 2006
By Sky Ice Age and Ice Age 2: The Meltdown are 20th Century Fox's CGI successes. Both movies warm the heart; they make you appreciate the value of friends and family; they teach good morals. They are class-A family films (with the all important adult-asides).
There has been a tremendous proliferation of computer generated image films over the past couple of years which has certainly diluted the excitement that used to surround these movies. 2006 has got to set the record with 13...count 'em...13 releases that I can think of (Cars, The Wild, Happy Feet, Doogal, Open Season, Monster House, Chicken Little, Barnyard, Over the Hedge, The Ant Bully, Hoodwinked, Ice Age 2 & Flushed Away).
But the overkill of computer animation in 2006 should not sway anyone into missing Ice Age 2; it is the best of all 13 in 2006 by far. And if you've not seen the original, this 2-pack has your name all over it.
The picture is just awesome; this computer generated animation is amazing to see on a high-def TV. It's almost 3D. Unbelievable.
The Ice Age movies are classics and should not be missed by anyone, infant right up to senior movie-goer.

Great value for 2 funny moviesJan 07, 2008
By J. Dezek Both movies for the price of 1, AWESOME! The only drawback is the set isn't available in widescreen, but that doesn't make this less of a deal or the movies less funny.

Right from the start in part one you are laughing! Excellent animation wonderful characters. In part two that squirrel is still at it with the acorn. It is so funny. I am an adult and enjoy this a lot. Not just for kids anyone who likes to laugh will love these pictures.

Wide Screen tooMay 06, 2010

I was looking for the wide screen two pack version but couldn't find one with wide screen mode for a reasonable amount. As it turns out, this pack has both full screen (as described) as well as the wide screen version.

Scrat--A Metaphor for Doing ScienceFeb 21, 2007
By James A. Glazier
"JAG"
When I first was dragged to see Ice Age II, I dreaded it. I've now watched the Ice Age movies dozens of times. Scrat is the single most resonant character I've seen in an animation--his single-minded and fanatic determination to achieve the unreachable is an utterly compelling visual metaphor for scientists (and artists), for whom the goal is always just beyond their grasp and for whom each achievement leads only to the quest for the next. The ending of Ice Age II, in particular is sublime, since science (especially mathematics and physics) is full of jokes/urban legends of great names saying that they are looking forward to asking god about the solution to turbulence, the Riemann hypothesis, etc... and anticipating that god will be unable to provide the answer. The DVDs are particularly useful since they allow you to skip over the very forgettable main stories and watch only the Scrat segments and because they include a great Scrat short. Highly recommended for anyone of any age doing science or contemplating doing science.
