Orphaned at the age of four and harboring a traumatic secret, Dexter Morgan (Dexter Morgan (Emmy- and Golden Globe- nominated actor Michael C. Hall from "Six Feet Under") is adopted by a police officer who recognizes Dexter's homicidal tendencies and guides his son to channel his gruesome passion for human vivisection in a constructive way - by killing those heinous perpetrators that are above the law or who have slipped through the cracks of justice. A respected member of the police force, a perfect gentleman and a man with a soft spot for children, it's hard not to like Dexter. Although his drive to kill is unflinching, he struggles to emulate normal emotions he doesn't feel, and to keep up his appearance as a caring, socially responsible human being. | | | Product Details: | | | Actors:

One of the best shows on TV!Jul 19, 2010 This show is great, wonderful acting by everyone on the show and always enjoyable and entertaining. I would recommend this to anyone.
Killer ShowJul 18, 2010 I will admit to some hesitation at even wanting to watch this show.
I sit in Dialysis 2.5 hours a day 5 days a week. Sitting in Dialysis is hard, the recliner chairs are most uncomfortable having two 15 gage needles stuck in your arm is at best painful. Nor having anyone to talk to is the pits.
what i did is bought (what was at the time) the only portable blu ray player on the market and started watching blu ray movies.
i was told about Dexter by friends and everyone that told me about it loved t. "it's about a cop that kills on the side" they would tell me. after a few of them talked me sensless about it i thought i would try it.
I loved it from the first show.
Set in Miami, Dexter works for the police department figuring out how blood splatters from the victems of knife or gun shot wounds. but he has a darker side. he himself is a killer. his step father taught him how to channel his instincts and kill thoughs that are "unworthy to live".
It;s dark, often funny, and very bloody. this is not recomended for those that can' stand people screaming and bleeding a lot. but it is for those that have a dark sense of humor
Loved it!Jul 06, 2010 I finally got around to watching this show, and loved it! The idea of a serial killer who only kills other killers is rather intriguing, and this show presents it in such a fun way. The characters are all great and the dialog is brilliantly witty. The first season had a slight flaw of being rather predictable, but that really doesn't detract from my over all rating. This show is also strangely addictive! The only way to really watch it is by DVD or somehow streaming it from the internet (I watched it on Netflix, but I enjoyed it enough to buy on DVD once I get some extra cash!) so you can watch the episodes back-to-back, as most every one ends as a cliff hanger.
Addictive and RivetingJul 01, 2010 I found Season 1 of "Dexter" in a used record store about 2 years ago for a great price.
I put off watching it because of my apprehension about its violence and gore but after viewing the complete Season 1 I realize all my fears were unnecessary.
I loved Michael C. Hall's portrayal of uptight David Fisher in "Six Feet Under" and he has the acting ability and personality to pull off essaying a character as complex as Dexter Morgan.
At first, I despised Lauren Velez as Lt. Maria Laguerta because of her self-serving attitude and nasty power-tripping but she has become a very likeable character. The writers have slowly peeled back the layers of Maria and let her vulnerable, human qualities come to the surface.
C.S. Lee as Vince Masuka is hysterical to watch as he makes lewd comments to any females in the vicinity that border on sexual harrassment.
The acting and writing on "Dexter" is all top-drawer.
I feared the story content and locale would borrow from the CSI franchise, which I have seen and cannot say I enjoy at all. The murky photography and MTV-style editing do not sit well with this viewer. I was glad to see "Dexter" does not share these negative traits.
Though it took a few episodes to get hooked, once the Ice Truck Killer plotline kicked in, I was addicted and had to pace myself to one or two episodes a night until I got to the gripping Season Finale. I did have an inkling of the killer's identity though, due to the way the character was introduced.
The creepiest scenes were in Episode #10 ("Seeing Red") where Dexter encounters a horrificly bloody crime scene which unleashes some disturbing repressed memories. (The hotel room rivals the infamous room 237 from "The Shining" featuring those creepy twin girls).
Thankfully, there is not a lot of gratuitious gore in the series, considering it's a cable property.
If you are unsure of this series due to its premise, the gore is minimal and is as tastefully handled as can be. I highly recommend "Dexter" as one of the best current offerings on TV.
Fantastic ShowJun 07, 2010 I will say that when this show first came out, I wasn't very interested in seeing a story pan out that was about a serial killer. But, I finally sat down and rented the show.
I was immediately addicted.
"Dexter" follows the life of one Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a blood-splatter analyst for the Miami police department...at least that's what he does during the day. Dexter's position with the police gives him the opportunity to do his night job. That is, to hunt down murderers who got off on some sort of technicality...and kill them.
This show leaves you torn between two reactions. The moral side of you is saying, "This guy's a serial killer and you shouldn't be rooting for him." But, then there's the other side of you that is saying, "But, he's only killing bad people. People who have killed other people."
This show is just plain amazing. And I was so happy when Michael C. Hall FINALLY won a Golden Globe (2010) for his role as Dexter. Definitly worth checking out at least. You may be surprised.
